We are once again blessed to be gathering here at the Middlesex Yacht
Club to celebrate the 2009 season and the 114th year of this
prestigious organization - a milestone event to say the least.
MYC’s many years of existence are due to you – the members of this yacht
club. From its humble
beginning in 1896 as the Mattabesett Canoe Club located in Middletown,
to today - in its present location on the picturesque banks overlooking
the Connecticut River in Chester, gratitude goes to all the members
through the years who worked to preserve a very unique and historic
yacht club.
As our Constitution states…
“The
purpose of this organization shall be the encouragement and promoting of
yachting and to provide and maintain
suitable headquarters for its
members.”
I believe we can all agree that the purpose has
definitely been accomplished and continues to do so.
Look and see the beauty around you. You are the ones who have been
responsible in making MYC a club that we are happy to spend time at.
Whether enjoying our boats, the beautiful pool, club house and events
provided throughout the year, Friday Night Suppers, walking about the
lovely grounds or the camaraderie of the friends we have made here at
the club, we are all excited when a new season begins.
I look forward to seeing the pleasure our members, their families and
friends obtain from MYC as we continue to strive in keeping our marina a
safe and enjoyable place to come to.
I thank all the members of MYC for their support in allowing me to serve
as Commodore for the 2009 season and I will endeavor to fill the
expectations of true yacht club standards.
